small solar power generator
What do you think about making something like this?

Re: small solar power generator
I've seen this posted before on the web.
I was thinking about it, but... It's got to take forever to recharge the battery tho. I am considering building a dual solar and wind generator. I'm still trying to workout the bugs in my head right now tho. |

I bought a 15W panel and charge controller for $150.
I added a "Portable Power Station" which has a 12V battery and is designed to recharge dead car batteries. I think I paid $30 (possibly a bit more). Also I got a 200W inverter, for maybe $20. This system cost about $200 and I can use it to power my ham radios and a small light, essentially indefinitely. Transmit time is limited by the amount of sunlight. The only thing you want to be careful of is that you don't run the battery down too far, or you may damage it. |

Re: small solar power generator
Have one I built for about $100 with a junker 2nd 15"x30" panel a couple diodes and a deep cycle battery. Have it up north at a small trailer I have on some family property. Powers the lights and the shortwave when I'm there.
